Golf - 2008 Season

Boeing Classic volunteer recruitment underway

One of the hottest tickets on the PGA Champions Tour returns to the Puget Sound when the fourth annual Boeing Classic opens in August. Planning for the 2008 tournament is underway and organizers are looking for volunteers to staff this year's tournament, which raises much-needed dollars for the Heart Institute at Virginia Mason Medical Center .

The weeklong series of events begin Aug. 18, and culminates with the professional tournament Aug. 22-24 at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge golf club in Snoqualmie , Wash.

Since its inaugural year, the Boeing Classic, part of the company's regional community strategy, has raised more than $2.4 million for local charities, including the Heart Institute, Fitness for Life program, and The First Tee of Greater Seattle. Boeing and other sponsors recently announced they would renew their sponsorship deals through 2012.

More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to serve in a variety of capacities. Cost to sign up is $75, and in return, volunteers will receive the official Boeing Classic uniform package valued at $275, plus extras such as grounds passes, parking, meal vouchers and more. Register by May 1 and receive $10 off the registration fee.
